Day Eight

A short one from me today, since I didn’t have too much time. I tweaked the hexagon to make it a little easier in some places, and a little more difficult in others.

The “triangle punch” attack now has a much shorter gap between the second and third shots and a longer tell before the first one - this stops it feeling like a sucker punch, while still being challenging. It also no longer damages the player when the triangles return, which felt like cheap damage!

The third version of the hexagon spiral (which is used after the second “mini” triangle is spawned) now rotates faster after changing direction. This is the last part of the battle, after all, and by now the player should have a good grasp of the mechanics!

I’ve also stopped the minis from shooting during the spiral attack, because it’s impossible to avoid if that happens 😅 the spiral forces you to move in a specific way, and the extra attack from the minis often shuts off your only movement option.

What’s next?

I think the hexagon is in a pretty good place now. Tomorrow will be another shorter day, I want to make some changes to the “game over” screen. I’ve got a new piece of music for when you beat the level, and I want to have a bunch of nice animations that show a better breakdown of your score, plus possibly some hints.
