Day Seventy Four

It’s competition time! I remembered that I’m running a competition tomorrow, so I better actually get a new build up with all the bugfixes and new stuff I’ve been doing over the last week or so 😂

That means I haven’t quite caught up with the stuff I missed yesterday, but I did finally get an initial version of the laser out!

Big secondary weapon charges up while you’re close to bullets/lasers/the boss, and will:

  • stop you losing a life if you fire right after getting hit (there’s an option for doing this automatically, but getting the timing right is pretty fun actually)

  • interrupt and skip the current pattern, recentring the boss (in most cases) and quickly starting a different pattern, so you can skip a pattern that you’re finding difficult

  • convert all enemy bullets on screen into points, for big point bonuses

It’s mapped to the old shoot button, and shooting is now completely automatic.

I think it adds a bit more depth to gameplay, adds a bit of a “get out of jail free” card for when you’re in danger, and adds a little bit more depth to scoring. It does buff grazing yet again though, for the highest scores you’re going to want to be grazing wherever you can.

What’s next?

Seeing how the competition goes, and keeping an eye out for major bugs while that happens.
